Increasingly complex areas of applications of raw and base materials as well as of specialty chemicals require increasingly the formulation of the chemical and physical properties of a product.

The chemical industry processes mainly raw materials in a solid state. The defined granule size is of considerable importance in this regard. Compared to powders, granules show a greatly improved flow capacity and enhanced density. However, for process-related reasons, raw materials are often delivered in powder form and are therefore mostly not suitable for further processing or final use in this state. The required properties are obtained through compaction and granulation.

In this process, the physical properties such as granule size, granule size distribution, bulk density, granule hardness and active surface are affected in such a way that a granule is produced in a sellable format or that the granule can be further processed as an intermediate product (e.g., for textile dyes, battery masses, salts, fertilizers and additives).
